Re: Adult Division of Prose/ First Chapter
Are there any special instructions for this entry, such as requiring a synopsis for the novel?
Hi Martha. No synopsis is required, just the first chapter, up to 2,500 words. Good luck!
Update: We’ve raised the word limit to 3,000. Thanks!
this website is fun and cool thanks.
Does the work need to be unpublished? Even if it is original work?
Work that has been self published would be eligible. Work that has been submitted to other contests would be eligible as long as it did not receive a monetary award, by the time the story, essay, etc. was submitted to the contest.
Thanks for your question, Kelsey. Good luck and if you’d like further info there is a link that gets directed to me. Ray “Grizzly” Racobs – 2011 KWA Contest Chair
Shoiuld I put the word count on the cover letter to send the manuscript to the writing contest or not? I’m confused by whether we MUST include the word count or not. Can you clarify this for my fellow writers and me?
Thanks a lot!
Tom
I don’t think the word count is required, Tom. It’s listed as a guideline just to keep the entry size manageable. Good luck!
Erin
When will the winners be announced?
Hi, Ally. Winners will be notified by March 1 so they can have time to make arrangements to hopefully receive their award/certificate and anthology at our Scene Conference, which takes place March 16-17 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Wichita. Good luck!
