Assuming this is the same organization, I was one of the founding members of the KWA, back in the 70s (when it was a lot more primitive than now — then it was just a bunch of writers who liked to get together every year and talk and drink. I lost contact in the 80s, partly because I was working on my second novel, on deadline. I looked at the website out of curiosity, but the only name I recognize is Gordon’s. Not sure I entirely like the idea that it’s become so large and elaborate, with so many writerly activities. In my mind, it looks like the sort of active, gregarious group that many writers tend to avoid. But good luck to you.

For all the members of KWA I have some exciting news – if you have ever wanted to have something published without any fee or obligation – now is the time – send 1 poem or 1 short story (max. 7,000 word) per member to :
KWA Sampler, Prairie Moon Publications, PO BOX 236, Hillsboro, KS 67063
deadline is June 30, 2011
The collection will then be published in book form and ready for purchase some time in November (makes a great Christmas gift). There is no obligation to purchase unless you want to. This is a good way to tell folks you have been published without having to compete against others. The only real guideline is that the works be original and by the author and you must be a KWA member at the time of the deadline. So happy writing.
As Always,
Sonny Collins
